Separate the reading problem from the maths problem.

A word problem tests two things at once. Workings measures them apart, on every question, so you can target the right one — and dialect is never counted against a child.

Rostering

Import students and teachers from CSV. Every row is validated and the changes shown before they apply. OneRoster import is on the roadmap.

Consent, handled

NSW public schools need explicit parental consent for most online tools. Workings sends the requests, reminders and plain-English notice, and records every decision.

Seats

A seat is taken when consent is recorded, not at import. Going over your count starts a conversation, never a locked-out child mid-term.

Year rollover

Promote enrolled stages in bulk and re-roster classes. A child’s learning record is untouched.

One learning record

Practice at school and at home counts toward the same record, when a family links their household with the school’s code.

Leaving

When a child leaves, access ends that day. Your school can export its derived data first.

Questions

What school leaders ask.

How is Workings priced for schools?

Schools buy seat licences per school year, and pricing is by enquiry: it depends on your sector and seat count. Email hello@workings.com.au and we’ll talk it through.

Does it replace our maths program?

No. Workings is practice and diagnosis, not a scope and sequence. It sits alongside your teaching — twenty minutes in which every child works at their own frontier, with no grouping and no withdrawal — and tells you where each child actually is.

What can teachers see, and what can’t they?

Teachers see derived information for the students linked to them: mastery, benchmarks, stalls and misconceptions. They don’t see a log of every answer, and they can’t see students outside their classes or caseload. Access is enforced in the database and tested on every build.

Will Workings ever just tell my child the answer?

No. Not in any mode, not after any number of tries. When a child is stuck, the cast scaffolds: a question aimed at the mistake, a hint, help with the reading, or a smaller question from the skill underneath. The child always takes the last step.

If they walk away, the question closes without the answer and its maths comes back another day in a new form.

Which year levels does it cover?

Workings is built for numeracy from Kindergarten to Year 12, on the Australian syllabus focus areas. Year levels are switched on as their questions are written and approved by our curriculum lead, so ask us which are live today. A child isn’t capped at their school year: they can be ahead in one strand and consolidating in another.

Is there AI in Workings?

Yes, in a narrow and checked role. A language model helps draft question wording offline, into a bank that is checked by software and approved by a person before any child sees it. No model is called while a child waits for a question.

The AI writes words. It never decides what the right answer is: every answer is computed by code, and the answer never even reaches your child’s browser. A child’s name, email and school are never sent to a model.
